After obtaining his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Ohio State University in 1985, Dr. Rainey served in the United States Air Force as an optometry officer for 5 years. In 1990, he joined the faculty of the Indiana University School of Optometry, where he was Chief of Binocular Vision and Pediatrics Services until 2003. While at IU, Dr. Rainey completed his Master's Degree in Vision Science, and until he regained his sanity, considered pursuing a PhD degree. He finally realized that optometric education was his professional calling following 2 years of private optometric practice. Dr. Rainey then moved to Memphis, Tennessee to become a faculty member of Southern College of Optometry, where was appointed Chief of Vision Therapy Services.
A proud Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, Dr. Rainey has authored numerous articles in research and clinical journals, and has lectured often to optometry students, optometrists, teachers, and parents. He is a self-proclaimed computer nerd who claims Linux as a second language, and actually enjoys writing HTML script for Web pages using a text editor. In addition, Dr. Rainey is an avid NASCAR fan, and has been painfully loyal to the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns for over 40 years.
