The Psychology of Optometry - February 2009
Those who desire to receive the best possible health care often insist on being treated by doctors who practice "holistic" medicine. According to my Dorland's Pocket Medical Dictionary (22nd edition, 1977 - give me a break, I used it in optometry school!), holism is "the conception of a man as a functioning whole." Does this mean there are doctors who do not practice holistically? If they do, then IMHO they are not very good doctors. ( more... )
VT: An International Perspective - February 2009
I have a somewhat unique viewpoint on Optometry in general and VT in particular having been educated in the USA and also having started my career there and then continued overseas. My generation has also seen the transition of Optometry from a drugless profession to a heavily medicated . . . or is that medical, one. It was my privilege to receive my VT education directly from Drs. Suchoff, Flax, Birnbaum, Forrest, and Fitzgerald along with some lectures from Drs. Gerry Getman and Amiel Francke. ( more... )
